Flyboard TV Commercial

This is a 30 second TV spot I edited for Zapata, promoting its flagship product, the Flyboard Pro Series. It aired during the 2017 Flyboard World Cup on CBS Sports. This was to be the first TV commercial for Zapata and an opportunity to introduce the product and brand to new audiences. The direction I was given was to make the product more approachable and less intimidating for new users. The major challenge of putting this commercial together was the need to get it done in a relatively short time. I had about one week. That didn't leave time for doing a shoot so I had to craft something together from existing footage.
I decided to make heavy use of animated type to drive the message and structure. I wrote the script and and selected shots that supported and reinforced the messaging I crafted. The animations, type and graphic treatments I developed for this spot were foundational for the rebranding of Zapata. The color scheme and angular motif stuck and became part of the brand's new identity.
