Photo Editing & Illustration for Scout.com

Photo retouching and illustration by Geno Betancourt for Scout.com
Scout Media is a network of over 350 individual sites with 9 million plus unique visitors a month. I am an art director at Scout with a multi-functional role. For my first year at Scout I was primarily responsible for photo editing and providing graphic design for their flagship home page. I established a signature style for Scouts photos and graphics that set itself apart from its competitors. Through photo illustration and bold retouching I created a visual style that was highly colorful and dynamic. It was my own take on sports coverage that made daily sports coverage look fantastical and legendary.

Above is a gallery that shows my work in the context of the home page which featured a prominent carousel. The carousel is the widescreen slideshow featured on the home page of Scout.com. My biggest priority was making sure that all the images in that carousel were amazing and highly produced. My proudest achievement at Scout was adapting to a whole new industry and genre. I was and am not a sports guy, but I adapted and made it my mission to learn the visual landscape and gain a deep understanding of the sports entertainment audience. I'll never be a big sports enthusiast, but I figured out what they like to see and I've grown to love the bold visual language of sports.
