TV Pitch for Nat Geo

Roles: Creative Direction, Presentation Design
Additional copywriting by Patrick Carone

Presentation work was a big part of my job as Zapata's Creative Director.  There was a lot of business development going on, plus a flood of interest from the media and entertainment industries.  Nat Geo approached us about doing a one time special, staring Franky Zapata and the Flyboard Air.  They wanted to discuss what could be done and I was asked to put together a couple ideas into a presentation.  I recruited the help of veteran entertainment writer, Patrick Carone, to quickly brainstorm some ideas with me and get them in writing.

This little project also marked the start of me experimenting with Google Slides as a serious presentation and collaboration platform.  As a designer it was a risky choice to use a stripped down tool like Google Slides, but I had enough bad experiences with Powerpoint and Keynote that I had to try something else.  What Google Drive's apps lack in design precision and flexibility they make up for in cross platform compatibility, ease of collaboration and ease of distribution.

Google Slides got the job done and after this, I began using it heavily for Zapata's presentations for business development.  The Google Slides presentations weren't award winning but I do take pride in balancing my high design standards with other important business factors.  Sometimes getting a presentation done quickly, effectively and on time is more important than making it look amazing.  Business opportunities come in a flash and it's better to strike when it's hot than miss it all together.
